It has been used with success in obstinate constipation, paralytic weakness of the muscles with no desire and ability to expel stool for days together, and itching in the anus. It is also useful in haemorrhage from bowels in the course of typhoid fever.

It should be remembered in glandular induration and ulcers when they are surrounded by an indurated ring. It should be thought of when there is a tendency to induration in the mammary gland and the neck of the uterus, with burning pains extending down the region of the oesophagus.

Boericke states that it is adopted by old people, especially in bronchial catarrhs.
